Your Next Target: Monte Caloria, Italy

EFTC2026 will be held on 7th-12th July on the beautiful Monte Caloria, located in Fagnano Castello, Cosenza, Italy.
Fagnano Castello is 110 km from Lamezia Terme Airport, which is easily accessible via well-connected roads, including the Mediterranean Motorway and the Superstrada delle Terme. It is 58 km from Cosenza and just 20 km from Guardia Piemontese, a renowned spa town on the Tyrrhenian Sea.

THE SCENARIOS

Monte Caloria

Monte Caloria rises to 1,172 meters above sea level and is one of the highest peaks of the Calabrian coastal range. It offers wide panoramic views and is a popular destination for nature lovers and hikers.

Lago della Paglia

It is a small artificial lake at 1,071 meters above sea level. Surrounded by beech and pine forests, it offers peaceful scenery for walks and outdoor activities. Easily accessible, it is one of the best-known destinations on the mountain.

Lago dei due Uomini

The largest natural lake in the area lies at 1,092 meters and is surrounded by forest. In 1982, a new subspecies of alpine newt was discovered here: classified as Triturus alpestris inexpectatus. The lake is now part of a protected area listed as a Site of Community Importance (SIC).

Fauna

The area hosts foxes, badgers, martens, hares, and black squirrels. Birds such as owls, sparrowhawks, and woodpeckers are common. Amphibians include the alpine newt (Triturus alpestris inexpectatus), a rare species found only in this part of Calabria.

Flora

The mountain’s vegetation is diverse. Beech forests dominate, covering approximately 663 hectares. Lower elevations feature oak and chestnut trees. Introduced species include Austrian pine, white fir, Calabrian larch, and Douglas fir. Along streams and clearings, ferns — including the majestic Osmunda regalis — and various orchids thrive.

Monte Caloria FT Course

The Monte Caloria FT Course is located on a plateau at approximately 1,100 meters altitude. It features tree-lined courses with varied terrain, offering both upward and downward shooting lines. The range is a recognized venue for high-level Field Target competitions.

Fagnano Castello (CS)

Fagnano Castello is a picturesque village in the province of Cosenza, surrounded by lush hills and chestnut woods. Rich in tradition, with local festivals and authentic flavors. A place to discover slowly, with an open heart.
